Turn Up the Heat on Your Cold Weather Workouts

My hope is that the cold weather is NOT putting a damper on your healthy workout routine. I have a saying, "There is no inappropriate weather, only inappropriate clothing." While this may be a stretch in a lightning storm, for the most part it is true. Another thing that my clients and I have discovered is that it is NEVER as bad as it may seem. Once you're warmed up, you'll forget it's raining, and with the right clothes (and attitude, you'll be warm).

Study - The Best and Worst Sunscreens - How Does Yours Rate?

Given that we are Outdoor Enthusiasts, I thought you might find this Website by the Environmental Working Group (a non-profit consumer advocacy group), interesting.

I found out that of the sunscreens that I've been using, one should "be avoided" due to health concerns (Neutrogena SPF 55); and the other made it to the "Hall of Shame" b/c it doesn't block the UVA rays that can cause skin cancer (Banana Boat Baby -- I thought b/c it was for babies, it would be gentle!).

Death by Pedicure

Believe it or not, pedicures (and manicures) can be dangerous to your health and in some cases, even deadly.  Our own Dr. Jennifer Barlow offers a few simple tips to protect you.

In my last blog I wrote about toenail fungus.  Today I will expand upon this in a discussion of pedicure safety.

Fungus Among Us

One of the benefits (among many!) of working out in the great outdoors is not being exposed to gym locker rooms where fungal infections can easily be contracted.  That said, there are still some pertinent points for the outdoor athlete to be aware of concerning the prevention of  toenail fungus.
